Mary/statueskyjmalloy5_JPG_w560h840.JPG

Welcome to a very special place, a place where people of all ages and backgrounds come to pray, meditate, and experience the consoling presence of Our Lady, Mary, the Mother of God, and our mother.  This special place is the Servants of Mary Center for Peace in Windsor, Ohio, and the Shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe.   At the heart of the Shrine is a 50-foot statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The statue, pictured above and to the right, was built entirely by volunteers and is adorned with nearly half a million mosaic tiles.  It overlooks a reflecting pond and 15-decade illuminated rosary.  The shrine draws many families, individuals, and groups who seek to know God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit through Mary's intercession.  View the video below or read a real-life story about the profound effect a visit to the Shrine can have.

All Praise to Jesus and Mary!

On behalf of my wife and my family and all those who volunteer to maintain our Shrine, I would like to welcome you to the Servants of Mary Center for Peace website. The website is new, but we have been here since 1990 when we returned from England to do something in thanksgiving for the graces which God bestowed on our family.

In the beginning, before the Servants of Mary, there was the fifty-acre farm and our plan to build small shrines to honor our Lady and our Saints. We wanted to promote the wonderful history of our Catholic Faith and offer a gift to Jesus for answering the prayers of our children. The detailed story of the history of the shrine can be viewed on the History page on this website. The who, why & how of erecting the statue is contained on our Shrine Story CD.  The short version of the story can be summed up in one word--Thanks.  The shrine has become an ongoing offering of thanksgiving to our Lord.

The shrine is available to everyone who would like to visit, seven days a week, year in and year out. Now, thanks to our volunteers, we are available on the web to the whole world. We hope that you will plan to visit our shrine in person and to experience its special blessings, as so many others have.

God Bless You.

Deacon Ed Heinz

Thank You!
Thanks to the generosity of the Ashtabula Foundation & other wonderful donors, we now have beautiful new indoor restroom facilities for our visitors.

Super Bowl Sunday
Why is it that when people dye their hair and paint their faces and/or bodies with team colors, wear horns, foam cheese wedges, etc on their heads, yell and chant they are known as fans, but people who mention the Lord are fanatics or Jesus freaks?

Friday, Feast Day of St. Agatha
Unfortunately there are few records of St. Agatha and most of what we know comes from legend.  She is supposed to have been born to a wealthy family in Sicily in the 3rd century and chose to devote her life to Christ.  Enter a low born Roman official who wanted to marry her.  Since she would not, he had her arrested and, being the judge, sentenced her to live in a brothel thinking she would then succomb to his will.  She still refused and was sent to prison.  There she suffered unbearable tortures.  "My courage & my thought be so firmly founded upon the firm stone of Jesus Christ that for no pain it may not be changed..."  She died a martyr.

Sex ed and middle school
Did you hear on the news that a study showed that teaching abstinence alone significantly helped decrease sexual activity among middle school students?  Imagine that.  Wonder what would happen if that would also teach that life begins at conception and that an embryo is not just some tissue, but a living, growing child of God?  To quote the late A.W. Liley, M.D. "biologically at no stage of development can we subscribe to the view that the unborn child is a mere appendage of the mother.  Genetically, the mother and baby are separate individuals from conception."

Wednesday's Saints
Late again!  Wednesday was the feast day for two saints.  St. Blaise was thought to have been an Armenian Bishop martyred in the early 4th century.  Not much is known about him but accoring to legends he cared for and cured wild animals when he went to the wilderness to try to escape persecution.  He was discovered in a cave surrounded by injured animals and is considered to be the patron saint of wild animals.  He is also credited with healing a boy brought to him close to death with a fishbone stuck in his throat.  For this he is known as the patron saint of those with throat maladies.
Wednesday was also the feast day of St. Angar, a 9th century Benedictine monk and Archbishop of Hamburg credited with bringing Christianity to Denmark.

Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple
Today commemorates when Jesus was presented in the temple 40 days after His birth and when Mary went to fulfill the purification required after birth.  Let us say with Simeon "...for mine eyes have seen thy salvation ... a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to thy people Israel" Read Luke 2:22-39 for the full account.   Thank you, Lord, for sending Your Son.

Diamonds in the snow
Did you see them last night?  One good thing about a cold winter night with snow on the ground and a full moon, the snow catches the moonlight and makes it look like the ground is covered with diamonds in the snow.

God doesn't want us to be in the dark
Recently at a local Bible study, one of my friends pointed out that God doesn't want us to be in the dark.  On the fourth day of creation according to Gen. 1:16-17 God made two great lights, one to rule the day and the lesser to rule the night, to separate the light from the darkness.  Notice He still set the moon in the darkness for a light.  Then He sent His Son to be the Light of the World.  Go toward the Light.  Go toward God.

Brrrr...it's cold!
An arctic front has moved in and it is cold here!  But the sun shone today making things seem warmer.  Think of the sunshine as God's smile, making your day warmer, lighter and brighter!  And think of your smile as having the same effect on someone who may be feeling emotionally cold.  Share your smile with those you meet and make the day brighter and warmer for you and others!

St. Thomas Aquinas
Can you imagine writing a "summary" of Christian theology over 3000 pages long?  That's what St. Thomas did... and he still had more he wished to write but died before he could finish it.  He is one of the greatest theologians of all time and is considered the patron saint of universities and students.

Wednesday - St. Angela Merici
St. Angela (1474-1540) was used by God to promote the position of women.  At a time when the only women who received an education were the rich or those in religious orders, she founded the Company of St. Ursula (later known as the Ursalines) which was the first teaching order of women, instructing young girls outside the cloister in Catholic theology and Christian living.

Feast of Saints Timothy and Titus
Today is the feast day of two leaders of the early church and close friends of St. Paul.  In addition to the strength of their faith, the strength of their friendship with Paul is also important.  How comforting it is to have a friend in Christ to share your life journey.  May we all be so blessed.

Trojan Horses
Recently our computer was invaded by a seeming army of trojan horses which caused the hard drive to totally crash and burn beyond repair.  I am so thankful that our God is omnipotent and cannot crash and burn!

St. Agnes
In 304 A.D. 13 year old Agnes chose Christ over riches.  The governor's son had wanted to marry her but she chose to devote her life to Christ instead. The son reported her to his father and she was offered great riches if she would deny Christ.  She happily chose Christ, was tortured and martyred.  How many of us would have the faith to make the choice she made?  With all that surrounds us each day, do we make choices based on faith in our Lord?  We may not have to make the choice of belief or life, but sometimes the more subtle choices are the harder ones to make.

Feast of Fabian, Pope and martyr
In 236 AD people were gathering in Rome to see who would be elected the new Pope.  A farmer named Fabian happened to be in the city when a dove decended and lit on his head.  Fabian, an unknown layman was proclaimed the new Pope!  You never know when God is going to call you.  Pray and be ready.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
This week is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which began in 1908 with Popes Pius X and Benedict XV blessing it and encouraging its observance.  We all call God Father.  We need to set aside our differences and see ourselves as all children of God.
Today is also Martin Luther King Day the spirit of which also encourages us to set aside our differences and walk hand in hand.

The First Miracle
Today's gospel is about the first miracle - the changing of water into wine at the marriage in Cana.  And it was not just any wine, it was the best wine.  And so it is when Christ comes into our life.  It is not just any life anymore.  It is spiritually the best life.
